MACALIK, Alfréd (1888, Viena - 1979, Oradea)
Artistic education: Hungarian Academy of Arts Budapest (1914), Academy of Fine Arts Krakow, Lesser Poland (1911). The artist organized 2 personal exhibitions: Krakow, Poland (1926) and Oradea (1966) and participated in an artistic colony of creation Baia Mare (1921). In 1930, Macalik founded his own school of drawing and painting, a beneficial offer for a prosperous city such as Oradea, where the fine arts flourished. The institution, which functioned until 1937, came in support of covering the applications, given the existence of schools with a similar profile, led by outstanding artists such as Tibor Ernő or Barát Móric. This year he also offers to participate in the Transylvanian Artists Exhibition in Cluj. Along with well-known names of interwar Romanian art: Catul Bogdan, Aurel Ciupe, Romulus Ladea, Hans Mattis Teutsch, the artist from Oradea exhibits five works. The painter, musician and composer, was in the first generation of musicians of the Oradea State Philharmonic. A plastic artist with an uninterrupted activity during six decades, he is present on the grounds of the Crisurilor Country Museum in Oradea with 32 paintings and 11 graphic works from the artist's creation, an additional proof of the professional consideration of his work.
