BALÁZS, Péter (1919, Vlaha, Cluj - 2003, Cluj-Napoca)
Artistic education: Sándor SZOLNAY Private Painting School - SZERVATIUS Jenő; Baia Mare School (1938-1939), under the coordination of ZIFFER Sándor; „Ion Andreescu” Institute of Fine Arts, Cluj-Napoca.
After 1968, for four decades he actively participated in local, regional, and national exhibitions, and “during the six decades of artistic creation he will manage to leave behind almost 1000 oil paintings and a significant number of drawings and works of art graphics". (Iakob Attila, „Bálász Péter 1919-2003”, Exhibition catalog of the Cluj Art Museum, May - June 2019, Mega Publishing House, 2019, p.10).
In 2008 and 2019, respectively, the Cluj-Napoca Art Museum dedicated two commemorative exhibitions to the artist.
“The world created by BALÁZS Péter is a known one and yet different from the real one. He approaches the rural and urban space with seriousness and depth that reflects not only a deep attachment but also a desire to reconstruct them and immortalize them for posterity. Vivid, strong colors, vivid landscapes, or still lifes take on a special meaning and form at Balázs Péter. We can see not only a cyclicity in themes but also a desire to provide snapshots of the world in which the artist walks. The landscapes that have in the center the native rural space, seem to induce a state of nostalgia, a state in which the one who looks at the landscape is invited not only to a process of admiration but also to participate in the life of this space” (Iakob Attila, „Bálász Péter 1919-2003”, Exhibition catalog of the Cluj Art Museum, May - June 2019, Mega Publishing House, 2019, p. 11).
