Ion MÂNDRU (Smulți, Galați, 1897 - ?, 1980)
Artistic education:
He studied and worked in the workshop of the painter Nicolae MANTU (1871-1957) in Galați, later with the sculptor Spiridon GEORGESCU (1887-1974) in Bucharest.
He organized personal exhibitions in Galați, Bucharest, Constanta, Turnu Severin, Brăila, Sulina and a retrospective exhibition at the Romanian Athenaeum, Bucharest, 1967.
Between 1934 and 1944 he participated in fourteen group exhibitions and Bucharest salons. Also, his presence is recorded in collective exhibitions in Galati (1930, 1935), Constanța, Brăila, Iași (1934)
In 1942 he opened a personal exhibition in Munich, Germany.
Works signed by the artist can be found in Romanian museum collections (MNAR Bucharest, MAV Galați, Museum of the State Bank of Bucharest, MA Berevoești Argeș. The Museum of Volos, Greece owns works acquired before 1944, some of which can be found in private collections in Bucharest, Sofia, and Munich.
