GY. SZABÓ, Béla (1905, Alba Iulia - 1985, Cluj-Napoca)
Artistic education: Hungarian Academy of Arts, Budapest, MMA (1936-1939), with professor VARGA Nándor Lajos. Between 1932 and 1980 the artist organized seventeen national exhibitions (Cluj, Bucharest, Targu Mures, Oradea, Arad, Brasov, Sibiu) and had seven exhibitions abroad: Brussels, Belgium (1958); Portland, Oregon, USA (1967); Vienna, Austria (1967); Budapest, Hungary (1966, 1971, 1974); Mexico City (1973), New York, USA (1977). He also represented Romania in two group exhibitions integrated into the Venice Biennale (1954, 1960).
Recognized as one of the most valuable graphic artists of the Romanian space, he received three important awards and distinctions: RPR State Prize - Bucharest, 1952; Emeritus Master of Art - Bucharest, 1957; Order of Cultural Merit - Bucharest, 1967. The artist benefited from two retrospective exhibitions at the Brașov Art Museum (2005) and the “Liber miserorum” Exhibition at Quadro Gallery, Cluj (2019).
